If your skin could talk….

If your skin could talk….

She’s real, she’s confident and she’s always right – most of the time.  She’s your skin.

And she wants to talk.

We hardly moisturise enough, we don’t drink half as much water as we should, we squeeze when we’re supposed to exfoliate and don’t even get us started on taking our makeup off before bedtime (really don’t!). If your skin could talk back, what would it say to you right now? Would it be happy, sad, awkward or just plain starved of some love and attention?

Truth is, we owe our skin a lot – like a deep meaningful conversation every once in while might be helpful. This year, we’re talking about starting a real convo, heck, even a relationship with your skin.

Sorbet and Dermalogica kick off 2018 with everything ‘skin’, and a closer look at all the things your face really wants to say.

  1. Here comes the Sun…

The Day Before:

Spent a lazy afternoon by the pool with new boyfriend….in new bikini…listening to new Ed Sheeran track…in 32-degree heat. Nice.

The Morning After:

Red blisters. Charred patchy skin that’s sensitive to the touch, and starts peeling. Not so nice.

What your skin says?

You burnt us b#$%! Look at us, all patchy and lobster-esque. Forget Shimmy’s tonight, I’m out. She walks.

How to make good?

Calm her down. Cool your skin with a gentle anti-inflammatory like Aloe Vera gel, or a salon- recommended After Sun. Next time: avoid overexposure to the sun and make use of a professional SPF product. We’re a fan of the non-greasy Dermalogica Daylight Defense SPF 50.

  1. HowZIT going?

The Day Before:

Pigged out on a Friday night pizza (alone)…polished a bottle of wine for good measure…managed to fit in that packet of Peanut Butter MnM’s too. No, not pregnant!

The Morning After:

Jupiter on your nose, Neptune on your chin and a whole lot of WTF happening right around the centre of your forehead.

What your skin says?

Nothing. No words. (And don’t even think about squeezing me!)

How to make good?

Okay don’t squeeze her. For an instant, quick cover up, squeeze your Sorbet BB Cream instead (just a dollop) on the unsavoury area. For the longer term, treat your skin to regular ‘planet’ maintenance with Dermalogica’s Medibac Clearing range; formulated specifically to treat prolonged adult acne, but oh so suitable for keeping breakouts and junk outs under control.

  1. Hello Darkness my Old Friend…

The Day Before:

A sudden dark ring on the cheek, which you first thought was a piece of tape from last night’s scrap booking, turns out to be a big, fat pigment patch.

The Morning After:

It’s still there! Blame the sun or pregnancy or genetics for this one! Sadly, it happens to most of us when we’re not looking. Hyperpigmentation takes place when your skin begins to store unwanted melanin deposits, resulting in brown spots and uneven skin. Yes, 36, we’re looking at you.

What your skin says?

Hand to brow. Oh cover my eyes. Cover my eyes. The hormones and the kids and the sunshine – and those crabby yellow sweat pants you’re wearing (again!!) – it’s all just too real right now.

How to make good?

Professional laser treatments (for the pigment not the sweat pants), though costly, can effectively reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Alternatively, for a radiant, more even skin tone, you could purchase a skin brightener that targets problem areas. Ask your professional Sorbet therapist to guide you with the right target treatment for your skin.

  1. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

The Day Before:

Pulled another all-nighter (third one this week, hundredth one this year) and substituted energy drinks for food to keep you going.

The Morning After:

Fine lines, sallow skin, droopy eyelids and changes in skin texture and tone? You might want to sit down for this one. You’re experiencing premature aging.

What your skin says?

I’m telling mom. And I’m never ever hanging out with you again. Folds arms.

How to make good?

First of all don’t tell Mom. Second of all, get to bed! You need a sleep routine and a balanced diet. And while you’re at it, book any Dermalogica Facial at any Sorbet Salon and get R 100 off, before 11 Feb 2018.  You could also try an anti-ageing, take-home solution like Sorbet’s Age Affect Skin Care range. Psst! So much love in every bottle.

And that ladies, is the real conversation you should be having with that one part of yourself that knows you best, loves you best and has no choice but to hang out with you, every second of every day: your skin. Let her speak…
