Paint Your Nails Purple in the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a profound and widespread problem in South Africa.

It is a phenomenon deeply rooted in gender inequality, and one which disproportionately affects women and children.

Gender-based violence does not discriminate. Persons of any age, race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender can be a victim of GBV.

How can we prevent gender violence in South Africa?

Make your voice heard by declaring publicly that enough is enough:

• Challenge the normalisation of violence against women and children.
• Challenge gender stereotype and roles.
• Challenge condoning violence against women and children.
• Challenge sexist jokes and remarks about women.

The Sorbet Group invites you to join the “Paint Purple” GBV campaign where we work together for a safer South Africa.  All you have to do is paint your nails purple in the fight against GBV. Take a picture and use the hashtag #SorbetAgainstGBV in your posts so your hands do the talking in the fight against GBV.

We are also proud to continue our partnership with People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) to spread awareness of gender-based violence (GBV). POWA’s mission is to be a feminist organisation that provides professional services that comprise of advocacy, training, psycho-social support, legal and sheltering to survivors of violence. The POWA counselling number is  076 694  5911 and the counsellors are available from 8:30 – 16:30 Monday to Sunday and email is counselling@powa.co.za. POWA also provides Legal Advice via their email at legal@powa.co.za.
